5 Great Florida Property Tax Appeals Numbers and Dates

Important Dates and Numbers for Property Tax Appeals

August

Throughout Florida, a Truth in Millage or TRIM Notice is mailed to property owners in August. Property tax appeals must reference the TRIM notice to be effective.

25 days

Truth in Millage or TRIM Notice, comes with a 25-day property tax appeals window during which property owners may petition the Value Adjustment Board (VAB) should they disagree with the assessed value of their property

2 ways

Property owners who disagree with the property values listed on their Notice of Proposed Property Taxes (or TRIM Notice) have two options:

  1. Call or visit the Property Appraiser’s Office to discuss and review values, exemptions and classifications.
  2. File an appeal with the VAB and have their case heard before a Special Magistrate.

15 days

A property owner appealing his/her property value is required to submit to the Property Appraiser’s Office, all documents that will be used to support this appeal. This documentation must be submitted 15 days prior to the scheduled VAB hearing.

Likewise, for a petitioner to receive all the information the Property Appraiser intends to present at the hearing, a request in writing must be received at least 15 days before the scheduled hearing date.
